Denali’s OSU Vet Clinic Visit

On Monday Denali, my parents and I went to OSU Vet Clinic.  Denali was a VERY good girl in the car (she loved watching the semi trucks!).   When we got to OSU, there were quite a few other dogs and people for Denali to meet.  She went back for a small chat with a student vet and then we got to meet with Dr. Couto.  Dr. Couto was 95% sure that we are dealing with bone cancer and he said even in the other 5% if it is not bone cancer, we would have to amputate in order to ‘fix’ the problem.  He also went over our other options of radiation therapy and a few options that we’ll have for chemo and also he TOUCHED on ‘life after chemo’ and metastasis.  It was very informative and I am glad I went for my own peace of mind – even though the out come is the same.

Denali’s amputation is scheduled for Thursday.  My poor vet’s office has to put up with my million and one questions, but they are very accommodating and seem happy to answer.

Here are some pics of my little girl:

Denali is gorgeous! Total sweetheart.

Glad the trip and the information helped with your decision and your peace of mind. It’s always soooo tough having to make these calls for our furry loved ones.

My thoughts are with you and Denali for her upcoming surgery. Will be thinking of both of you and looking for an update.

Sending positive thoughts and healing wishes.

She’s smaller than Loki, so I really meant ‘little’ as in ‘small’ – but she’s young too – so I guess it can go both ways 😛

Remember- my perspective for the last 11 years is based on pugs! So Denali is at least a size L to us.

Denali and Loki are adorable. I grew up with American Eskimos so I have a special place in my heart for all white dogs and of course goldens.

Sounds like your vet is amazing. I asked a lot of questions too but being informed about everything made it easier for us humans involved.

Are fingers and paws will be crossed on Thursday.

Denali, you met THE Dr. Cuoto? Girlfriend, you couldn’t be in better hands. He is one of the most famous dog cancer vets in the world. Seriously! WOW, I’m impressed!

We are thinking of you, and sending our love. Dr. Cuoto will take great care of you, just you wait and see.

We won’t be working too much with Dr. Couto – it’s a long drive and he said he’d work with my vet (a former student of his) and the Metropolitan Vet Clinic in the Akron area (most of them there he said are also former students of his).

I didn’t know of Dr. Couto’s “rock star” reputation until after the appointment was made. I REALLY liked him as he took the time to explain everything and seemed pretty understanding of the situation.
